God doesn’t answer our prayers exactly the way that we expect. In this clip from Forrest Gump, Lt. Dan was questioning Forrest’s belief that God would provide them with shrimp. Just as Lt. Dan was mocking God, “God showed up” with a mighty storm. During this horrible storm Lt. Dan kept on mocking and challenging God. All the while, God was protecting them and their shrimp boat. That fateful day was the beginning a prosperous blessing for their shrimp business.
We don’t always see what God’s sovereign plan is for our lives. We can only claim the promises of God “No one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you.” Joshua 1:5 .
If God feels far away, you moved. He is always right there. God’s answers to your prayers are Yes, No or Not now. If he answers no to a prayer, then God has a much bigger or better plan for you that we can’t see and in the long run things will work out for your own good. If God answers “not now” then there are likely other people, circumstances and pieces that need to be more ready and the timing just isn’t quite right. If God answers yes, then the timing and our hearts are ready for the blessings that he has in the answered prayer.
We may never see the entire big picture this side of heaven, but we need to trust that God’s will is perfect. We need to claim this verse and believe it as an absolute truth: “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”Jeremiah 29:11
