In this white knuckle scene from The Island, Lincoln and Jordon survive an unbelievably dangerous and life threatening drop from a high rise building. After witnessing the hair raising close call and lifting them the safety, the rescuing construction worker exclaims “Jesus must love you ... I know that Jesus loves you”!
Hollywood special effects aside, do you ever feel like you are having one of these kinds of days? You may not feel like you are being chased by people with guns or needing to navigate a 70 story fall, but, you may feel like you are being verbally, spiritually or otherwise attacked in some way.
Do you ever wonder why God allows these kinds of challenges in your life?
James 1:2-4 says Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.
This life is a journey with a series of tests. Sometimes we pass them, and sometimes we fail them. But, we need to remember that God has our backs no matter what we are going through. Jesus forgave us and we are called to forgive others, so we need to ask: What do I need to ask forgiveness for in this situation, and who and for what do I need to forgive? What is God trying to show me in this situation? What am I supposed to learn?
God always pulls us through every circumstance. Remember to thank Him and honor him along the way. Bad things do happen to good people, but God blesses the faithful. Perseverance is like a muscle, it gets stronger the more you stay faithful under trials.
Matthew 7:24-27 says 24 “Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. 25 Though the rain comes in torrents and the flood waters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock. 26 But anyone who hears my teaching and doesn’t obey it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand. 27 When the rains and floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will collapse with a mighty crash.”
“God must Love YOU” when he pulls you through dangerous or unpleasant situations, but what He is really doing, if you allow Him too, is making you a more Christ-like person through them.
