The Potter and His Clay

“Yet, O Lord, you are our Father.
We are the clay, you are the potter;
we are all the work of your hand. “
~ Isaiah 64:8

If you have been a reader of my blog for any amount of time, you know that I am a sucker for Surf’s Up clips.  But, I can’t help but share this one.   Big Z is trying to teach Cody about how to make a surfboard from a single piece of wood.

Without contact with the potter, the clay is nothing-

“The board is already inside there somewhere, and what you are doing, is you are trying to find it.” Big Z told Cody.

That clip reminds me that, like the potter and the clay, we are all work in progress aren’t we? I love how impatient Cody is with his training on how to build the board.
He’s just like you and me isn’t he? We start off as unrecognizable clay blobs of human shortcomings; like that plank of wood in the clip.

We can blame it on the fall of man when Adam and Eve sinned, I guess.
We muddle through life full of blind issues and pride that create messes all around us.
But, when we stay in contact with the potter, the Living God, we can begin to change.

We are in the hands of a sovereign God-

No problem or challenge is too complicated for a sovereign Lord!
Have you seen God take care of something right before your eyes this week?
If you don’t think he has been handling some crazy issues in your life, you just aren’t paying attention or giving Him the credit.  Pray that God would reveal to you more when He is working things out for you.

The Lord molds us to be beautiful-

When you and I have accepted Christ and begin to walk with him daily, he begins to mold us into a new and more beautiful you and me.  We become an improved version of ourselves, molded in His image.

Galatians 5:22-23
22 But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!

This week, God allowed me to see the healing and reconciliation power that comes from a contrite heart and forgiveness. He also allowed me to see a dear friend find
true freedom and victory in Christ!

To witness this kind of breakthrough was an honor and a privilege that I will never forget.She is forever changed, a new and victorious version of herself!

The Lord molds us to be useful-

Second Corinthians 4, verse 7 says, "We have this treasure from God, but we are like clay jars that hold the treasure." God wants to develop us into kingdom builders, useful and powerful.  The very same power that raised Christ from the dead resides in the heart of every believer.  God equips each of us for our own ministry of impact if we are pliable enough to allow Him to use us.

Oh yes, you shaped me first inside, then out;
you formed me in my mother's womb.
I thank you, High God—you're breathtaking!
Body and soul, I am marvelously made!
I worship in adoration—what a creation!
You know me inside and out,
you know every bone in my body;
You know exactly how I was made, bit by bit,
how I was sculpted from nothing into something.
~Psalm 139: 13-16

How will you allow the potter to shape you today?
